| Dear Friends |
|
| Anyone been to the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally? As well as high energy performances, laid back cafes, conspicuous consumption, quirky unexpected corners and vibrant creativity, there’s something restless and roving about the affair. |
|
| Seekers gather from afar: perhaps looking for an escape from humdrum life or searching for connection and fun. Perhaps excited by the opportunity to forget usual boundaries or allowing masks to drop by adopting different gear and routines. |
|
| The vast majority of upwards 30,000 punters seem to spend much time roaming the fields: lounging, peeking into tents, sampling, imbibing, listening and occasionally visibly overcome with ……..(complete as applicable) and 100% checked out/switched off! |
|
| Whatever draws individuals to the Picnic, the restless roving vibe reminds me of all our searches for meaning in the greater sphere of life. What if we miss a gig that we were told was unforgettable? Which treatment is “in”? How can we fit in all the tempting offerings to expand/enhance body, mind and spirit? When to invest in a particular resource? Where can we find true satisfaction? |
|
| Which reminds me in turn of the searching process Chrysalis (more particularly the nine Advisory team members who we’ll introduce next time) is involved in right now. How can Chrysalis most effectively raise consciousness by empowering people to take, realise and optimise their life path? So many different avenues beckoning…which will bear most relevant fruit? |
|
| Although a printed autumn programme of events 2011 is not forthcoming, please rest assured that the discussions, ideas, dreams and checking out of practicalities, venues, budgets are active and ongoing for our spring 2012 relaunch. |
|
| Feedback from the June Update indicates that many people care about this organisation and have gained much from their association with Chrysalis…we’ll be sharing concrete decisions next time. |
|
| In the meantime, we look forward to hearing from you (two silent meditation days to meet up at & virtual brainstorm to join in with) and trust this finds you all in good health and spirits. |

…through understanding, we realise that the only way to prepare for the future is by living wisely in the present. Thich Nhat Han has crystallized this realisation in his translation of the following wise words of advice from a traditional Buddhist text: |
|
| |
Do not pursue the past.
Do not lose yourself in the future.
The past no longer is.
The future has not yet come.
Looking deeply at life as it is
In the very here and now,
The practitioner dwells
In stability and freedom. |

The First Step to Freedom |
| |
by Eoin Scolard, founder of the Irish School of Life |
| |
The first step to freedom is to recognize that you’re already free. The only thing that stops you from being free is your fear. And we all have our fears. We fear to say what we need to say, we fear to feel what is already there inside us, we fear to feel the fear itself. Its like a merry go round that we’ve already jumped on and we don’t even realise we’re on it!... Read more... |

Chrysalis was founded in 1989 as a centre for exploring spirituality, wellbeing and personal development.
After 21 years renting the Old Rectory in Donard, the charity moved out in March 2011 at the end of their tenancy
and is now taking a one year sabbatical to regroup, discern a wise future direction and rest!
We are planning our next programme of events for spring 2012. |
